The Klais-Organ

The organ seen at the cathedral today was consecrated on 29 January 1978 and built by the organ-manufacturer Klais, Bonn.

It replaces an organ built  by the same manufacturer in 1930, that was destroyed during WWII.

The organ possesses 68 registers (voices), 3 manuals and Pedal.

With a total weight of 20 tons (approx. 44000 pounds) the organ hangs as a blister obove the main portal of the cathedral.

In 1997 the 'setter' got expanded to 5120 different combinations and a floppy disk drive was added to store these settings. [....] The organ has 4834 different pipes made from wood, copper and tin. [...]
